Controller

SUMMARY: The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities of the company. This includes monthly and year-end financials, budget management, compliance (sales tax, mortgage, etc.), payroll, property accounting, and Yardi administration. The Controller will also liaise with external stakeholders, including landlords, CPAs, and national tenants, and support internal team members to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

·       Prepare and review monthly and year-end financial statements

·       Conduct month-end and year-end close processes

·       Manage quarterly tax filings and annual report filings

·       Ensure mortgage compliance including insurance, reporting, and posting monthly mortgage entries in Yardi

·       Coordinate tax packages and communicate with landlord CPAs

Tax Management

·       Oversee sales tax review, reporting, and compliance

·       Handle real estate taxes including tracking, payments, appeals, and recording

·       Bill major tenants for taxes and insurance

·       Manage quarterly distributions and reimbursement requests from lenders

Yardi Management

·       Set up leases, properties, and accounting modules in Yardi

·       Maintain and administer Yardi mortgage module and report scheduler

·       Handle Yardi administration and provide support to team members on technical issues

Operations & Payroll

·       Manage payroll processing

·       Handle banking operations including wires, fraud cases, and account issues

·       Attend monthly Publix meetings

·       Support Brenda & Hilda by answering technical questions

·       Manage KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) functions

Budgeting & CAM

·       Set up budgets, handle the accounting portion, and upload budgets into Yardi

·       Review, post, and manage CAM reconciliations, including answering questions and setting them up

Stakeholder Communication

·       Respond to landlords' financial questions

·       Work with national tenants to resolve billing issues

Real Estate Transactions

·       Conduct due diligence for acquisitions and dispositions

·       Provide reports and prorations for refinancings

Other Duties

·       Review 1099s and manage management fees

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)

·       5+ years of relevant accounting/financial management experience

·       Strong proficiency in Yardi software preferred

·       Knowledge of real estate accounting, CAM reconciliations, and mortgage compliance

·       Experience in budgeting, tax filing, and payroll

·       Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills

·       Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
