Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining the firm's books and overseeing fiscal duties. This role involves preparing special reports to show the firm’s financial performance and distributing job cost accounting reports to various stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Business Unit Leaders and the Executive Team in preparing annual budgets and consolidating them into a single, comprehensive budget.
  • Supervise the preparation of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly general ledger postings.
  • Manage the computer programming for accounting functions and supervise the preparation of management reports.
  • Prepare and distribute job cost accounting reports to Business Unit Leaders.
  • Modify accounting systems and procedures to ensure assignments are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Analyze various accounting reports and alert the President when variances from budget goals may arise.
  • Handle communication with bankers and auditors.
  • Supervise the preparation of taxes and recommend the best short-term investment strategies for excess cash.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all reports and tasks generated by the Accounting Department.
  • Assign and explain work to subordinates, answer questions, and resolve mistakes as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and take corrective steps to improve accounting procedures.
  • Oversee the banking of receivables and work with computer consultants on hardware and software matters.
  • Perform limited contract supervision duties, including:
    • Maintaining master files of all signed client agreements.
    • Obtaining billing instructions and schedules from Business Unit Leaders and Executives.
    • Encouraging Project Managers to bill accounts monthly.

Education and Experience

  • A degree in Accounting is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting roles within a service industry business.
  • A strong working understanding of how computers can be used to simplify accounting and reporting processes.
